Buffalo Jim paid a local artist to create this custom-made animatronic buffalo that belched steam. He loved driving it through the streets of Las Vegas at the Helldorado Days parade each year.
OFFICIAL STORY: The death of Buffalo Jim was heart failure due to an overdose of cocaine.
CONTRADICTIONS: According to files retrieved from the local police, the white powder scattered on Buffalo Jim’s beard, shirt, and in his nose was never tested.
OFFICIAL STORY: Buffalo Jim checked into the Motel 6 at 7:22 pm.
CONTRADICTIONS: While the Motel 6 cameras and receipt depict him checking in at 7:22 pm, the room key log on Buffalo Jim’s room indicates that it was accessed at 7:15 pm, seven minutes before he checked in.
OFFICIAL STORY: Buffalo Jim’s vehicle never moved from the spot he parked it in when he and “Lisa” arrived the night he was found dead at the motel.
CONTRADICTIONS: Police reports obtained by the family indicate that there was confusion by some of the responding officers on whether Barrier’s vehicle was at the motel or not. A missing vehicle report was going to be filed toward the end of one officer’s shift, but was then cancelled once the vehicle was found by another officer on the next shift.
OFFICIAL STORY: “Lisa” told police that Buffalo Jim had a seizure after ingesting so much cocaine and she left, scared of what was happening to him. This became the official story of Buffalo Jim’s last moments recorded in the official report.
CONTRADICTIONS: “Lisa’s” interview with police showed that she gave two conflicting reports about leaving the motel room. First, she stated that she left as soon as Buffalo Jim went to the bathroom. When confronted by police after the first statement, she later gave them the story about the seizure with what appear to be leading questions from the detectives interviewing her.
OFFICIAL STORY: “Lisa” told police that after Buffalo Jim picked her up that they had been partying for hours in the motel room.
CONTRADICTIONS: Medical examiner, Dr. Lary Simms, placed Buffalo Jim's death between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. At most, he and "Lisa" would have been in the room for less than 40 minutes, not hours as she stated to police.
